The curriculum taught at Al-Mizan Bedford Islamic School is devised into two main categories into which we divide our lesson times.
Islamic Studies
To promote greater understating and love of Islam we endeavour to teach the truthful message of Islam according to the Qur’an and Sunnah. We start by teaching the elementary components such as the Five Pillars of Islam and build the knowledge step by step in accordance with student ability and age groups. We encourage students to memorise short suras and duas so they can understand their relevance and use.
Quranic Studies
Our Qur’anic lessons encapsulate a syllabus where students benefit from two aspects of learning regarding Quran; tajweed (rules of reciting the Qur’an) and some hifz (memorising). The importance of the correct makhaarij (the correct pronunciation of the letters according to their place of exit) is emphasised from the very beginning as well as instilling a desire to always improving in hifz.
We endeavour to cover visual, auditory and oral aspects in relation to reciting. Each class has a teacher and an assistant who deliver their lessons in an engaging manner. We strive to make Qur’an lessons informative and enjoyable for the students so that they build a solid lifelong attachment and love for the Qur’an.
